Visit Us

For most of their existence, the war cemeteries have been closed to the public, as our main mission was to ensure that war victims were buried with dignity and their loved ones could visit them to commemorate. Now that less and less people remain who have experienced these periods of war themselves, the war cemeteries have opened to the public to ensure that the stories of war victims can be kept alive, and lessons can be drawn for the future.

The transition of our war cemeteries from private memorials to public heritage sites marks a significant step in our journey to keep the echoes of history alive. Now accessible to a diverse audience, our war cemeteries offer various forms of engagement, from personal, contemplative visits to organised heritage tours. Each form of visit is designed to provide a meaningful experience, allowing individuals to connect with the history in a manner that resonates with them personally. Through this openness, we invite not only a reflection on the past but also a collective contemplation on the lessons it holds for ensuring a peaceful and secure future.

Personal Discovery

Individual or personal visits to our war cemeteries are warmly encouraged, providing a space where visitors can personally engage with the solemn narratives each memorial holds. With gates open from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day and no entry fee, these cemeteries offer a peaceful setting for introspection and discovery. Visitors are invited to explore at their own pace, in contemplation of the sacrifices commemorated within these hallowed grounds. Fostering a personal understanding, each visit a unique opportunity for reflection on the profound impacts of war and the value of peace.

Bringing Groups

For those interested in experiencing the war cemeteries with others, group engagements are very welcome. We do, however, ask that such visits be coordinated in advance with our cemetery managers. This enables us to customise the visit to meet the specific interests and needs of your group, ensuring a meaningful and respectful experience for all involved. Depending on the size and preferences of your group, as well as the availability of our staff, we can arrange for guided tours that provide deeper insights into the histories and stories preserved within the cemetery, all within the working hours of our dedicated team.

Guided Tours

Guided tours, led by our expert local partners, bring the stories of the cemeteries to life. Our local partners are not only knowledgeable but also skilled storytellers. These tours delve into the heart of the cemeteries’ history, offering an engaging and insightful experience that goes beyond mere facts. They provide a unique opportunity to connect with the past and with fellow history/heritage enthusiasts in a meaningful way. While there may be a fee for these tours, the value gained from the immersive storytelling and deeper understanding of the site’s significance makes it a compelling experience for all who join.

Events

Organising events within the serene and solemn confines of our war cemeteries is a process that requires careful consideration and planning. To ensure that any event held is in harmony with the dignity and purpose of these memorial sites, obtaining official permission is a necessary first step. We encourage those interested in conducting events, whether independently or requesting in collaboration with us, to reach out to the war cemetery managers well in advance of the proposed date. This early communication allows us to understand the nature and scope of your event and enables us to offer the support needed to make your event respectful, meaningful, and in keeping with the commemorative spirit of the war cemetery.

Photography/Video/Drone Use

Capturing the essence of our war cemeteries through professional photography, video, or drones is welcomed, but it requires official permission. This process helps us safeguard the dignity of these sites, allowing for respectful documentation that respects the memory of those commemorated. By obtaining permission, photographers, videographers and drone pilots commit to creating content that aligns with the cemeteries’ solemn atmosphere and purpose, blending artistic expression with reverence to these sacred grounds.

Research & Study Projects

For those looking to embark on research and study projects about our war cemeteries, obtaining permission is essential for ensuring respectful and informed engagement with the site. This process not only helps us provide you with the most accurate information but also allows us to collaborate closely with researchers and scholars to amplify the stories of those commemorated within these grounds. Through such collaborative efforts, we can ensure that the legacy of the war victims and the historical significance of the cemeteries are respected and remembered, contributing to the pursuit of a future of peace and safety for all.

Press

For journalists and media professionals looking to feature our war cemeteries in their articles or reports, we welcome your interest and encourage you to inform us in advance. By doing so, we can ensure you have access to the most accurate information and connect you with the appropriate individuals who can provide insights based on your specific inquiries or the focus of your story. This collaboration helps us support thoughtful, well-informed coverage of the cemeteries, while respecting the memory of those commemorated here and highlighting the historical significance of these sacred grounds.

Our war cemeteries welcome a diverse array of visitors, from individuals seeking solace in quiet reflection to groups and professionals engaging in deeper exploration or research.
